Students and staff at The Maelor Sixth, part of The Maelor School, Penley, were celebrating as the school exceeded its previously excellent results this year at A level. All students achieved at least 2 A levels or equivalent and four fifths achieved these at A*-C. The school also had more A* and A grades at A level than ever before.
Headteacher Simon Ellis said, “I am overwhelmed with these outstanding results. Students and their families are to be congratulated for all their hard work and perseverance to achieve these superb grades.”
Director of Sixth form Penny Ellwood commented, “This year group have been a pleasure to teach, they have remained focused and dedicated and I am so pleased to see them achieve these amazing results. I wish them all well as they now go on to university and apprenticeships.”

- Lewis Evans got 2A* and 2A’s who will be studying medicine
- Sophie Vibhishanan 4A*’s who will be studying medicine
- Mary Mc Bain 3A*’s and 1A- going to study Biochemistry at Oxford University
- Robert McMinn 1A*,2A’s 1B -going to study Biology at Birmingham University
- Henry Morgan 2 A* 1A 1B - studying Maths at Warwick university
- Charlotte Davies, 3A's and an A at AS to defer her university education until 2019
- Caitlin Dop, 1A*, 1A, 1B and a C, to study Pharmacology at the University of Cardiff
- Steffan Evans, 3A* and 1A and AS grade A, to study Medicine at the University of Leeds
- Jamie Wilson, A*, 2A's and a B, to study Film & Television/English Literature at Aberystwyth University
